Although Taxation Consultant's Association, Sangli was formally registered in 1982, the organization of tax consultants was active since 1964, when the purchasing commission agents were forced to pay heavy taxes and penalties for wrong use of forms under BST Act 1959. The Association approached higher authorities and was successful in getting relief.

In March 1978, Taxation Consultant's Association organized the first grand seminar in this moffusil area, on "Tax Planning through private trusts" and "Clubbing provisions under Income Tax Act".

In view of increasing demand for seminars and conferences, a need of own liabrary and a meeting hall was felt. In 1982 consultants and members of the trade & industry contributed wholeheartedly towards funds for Associations building. In 1987 the premises of the Association was inaugurated by the then Commissioner of Income Tax Shri. C. V. Gupte.

At present the strength of Association is more than 140 which includes Income Tax Practitioners, Sales Tax Practitioners And Charted Accountants From Sangli, Miraj, Ichalkaranji, Jaysinghpur And Karad.

Since 1992 regular monthly study circle meeting is conducted on first Wednesday of every month, to discuss direct and indirect taxes and other topics. The Association has made continuous follow-up with taxdepartments on verious administration and other related matters to get favourable decisions for the taxpayers.

A number of seminars and conferences have been arranged covering direct and indirect taxes. The Association has maintained a dialog and cordial relations with the Sales Tax Practitioners Association of Maharashtra, Sangli Branch of Charted Accountants Institute and Trade Communities like Chamber of Commerce etc.
